Platonic Love - Girls by Boys in Lockdown

For her first piece as Polyester’s beauty editor, Grace Ellington commissioned four men to collaborate with their female lockdown platonic partners on a beauty shoot. The following images are what they came up with, alongside an ode by each photographer on why they love their subject.

Jenny has been a close friend of mine since I first moved to London. We worked together but instantly became great friends. we've constantly been there for each other to chat through relationships, dance, eat and generally give each other advice. I consider her to be someone I can share anything with. We can both unapologetically be ourselves around each other which is a characteristic I consider to be very special.” -

“Me and Nell have been living together since September last year, we bond over our love for Taylor Swift and The 1975, and also the fact she lets me cover her in glitter and photograph her at 9pm at night.” - Jackson Bowley

“This is a photograph of my dear friend Iso taken during the first lockdown in 2020. Iso had taken me in to her home for 2 months so that I wouldn’t be alone during an incredibly tumultuous time. It turned out to be one of the funnest summers of my life, we spent a lot of time together taking photographs, exploring south London, and acting like a dumb old married couple. I’d like to think that our friendship is the embodiment of ‘platonic soulmates’.” - Ezekiel Santos

“Responding to platonic love with a piece that encapsulates Annie’s spirit. Working with photos taken in May 2020 (during a lockdown birthday), this acts as a time capsule and a reminder of how much she means to me.” - Dean Hoy
