Make it stand out
In the 60s, anyone in the world could be connected to another person through six degrees of separation. Since social media, that link can be found through three degrees. And if you know Sandy Honig, it’s going to be just one. The director, photographer, actor and comedian isn’t just connected with anyone you can think of on these respected scenes - from Chris Fleming to Seth Bogart to Hannah Einbinder - she’s friends with them. This isn’t some feat of networking either, she is literally just that nice.
Honig joined us for the Besties issue before we’d confirmed Einbinder for a cover star, having been chosen as a feature for the zine prior to starting conversations with the Hacks lead’s team. It felt fated that the two were brought together for this particular print moment as the pair are far from just coworkers, but long time best mates.
“I met Hannah [Einbinder, Sandy’s bestie, who she shot for the Besties Issue] through her sibling Spike, who's a comedian in New York. I met Spike in the New York comedy scene in 2014. I was coming out to LA to do the Three Busy Debras pilot, and I didn't know anybody in LA. Spike said, ‘Oh you should go hang out with my sister Hannah!’” Honig tells me over a video call from a sunny room in her LA home. “I felt it from the first time that we hung out - we just had so much fun and immediately bonded. We kept calling it like our first date, where we went to Hollywood Forever Cemetery and walked around, we got tacos. And we just kept having these dates where it was like, ‘Okay, now we're gonna go rent the swan boats at Echo Park and talk on the lake.’ It was really sweet.”
