Buy Curious: What We’re Buying This May
Words: Katy Cutbirth & Grace Ellington
Welcome back to another Buy Curious! This month, Grace and I are gearing up for summer and asking ourselves two very important questions: who do we want to be for the next four months? And what do we need to survive the heat (fingers crossed) and the travel plans (double fingers crossed)?
Grace is manifesting a beach holiday filled with skimpy bikinis, barely-there makeup, glowing skin, and nails to match. Me? I’m leaning towards a city break, which means fun accessories, cute but comfortable outfits and pieces I can happily wear while clocking 20,000 steps pretending I live there.
Whether you’re planning on disappearing to the coast or romanticising your walk to the office, these are the things we’ll be adding to our carts this May.
Grace’s Picks
Sifali - Nem Watermelon Serum £30, Gül Rose Water Mist £25, Sen Barrier Moisturiser £38
A really elegantly formulated full skin routine from London based facial spa Sifali that captures some powerhouse ingredients like Ceramides, Vitamin E and Niacinamide via natural sources.
I am just super charmed by the idea of gold toenails for spring.
With Jean £138
This bikini is going to look perfect with the gold toenails next spring heat wave.
Hello Sunday - The Everyday One Face Moisturiser SPF 50 with Hyaluronic Acid £18
SPF is such a tricky one, you know you have to wear it but so many formulas are just a bit ick, this one is hands down my current favourite to the point I actually enjoy applying it.
Love love love this new launch from YSL beauty, leaves a soft blurred lip line effortlessly, perfect for if you’ve been watching Nina Park Lip tutorials obsessively.
Katy’s Picks
Balenciaga Silk Mini Dress £43
Ok apologies to my EU and UK girlies this one is for my homies in the US. The Real Real has got to be my favourite place to shop online for vintage. The deals here can be soo good and while the pictures often leave a lot to the imagination I kind of like that it feels like you’re gambling, never quite sure what you’ll end up getting. This vintage Balenciaga dress for under £50 is a steal and would be so cute for literally whatever you have planned this summer.
VINTED £120
Comme des Garçons is another brand I constantly have on my radar when searching for something unique. The deals are usually pretty good and I love that you can easily look at the tags to see the year and season it was made, it instantly makes you feel like a collector. This blue sequin skirt is insane, please someone buy it before I’m forced to! Also fun fact, I recently styled the pink version of this skirt in our Haut Corp vintage shop feature!
Vestiaire Collective £158
Dries Van Noten is one of my favourite designers to shop second hand for. It constantly shocks me the deals you can get for the quality of the items. Everything from Dries feels special and so unique, like something you bought on holiday from an artisan shop. This leather belt is a perfect example of that! Would also be super cool as a necklace or tied on a bag.
STILL HERE NYC £255
These feel like a modern take on the famous Jennifer Aniston Maharishi orange cargo pants she was always wearing in the late 90’s / early 00’s. Those pants had such a chokehold on me, as do these. I’m such a jeans girl so I’m always on the hunt for an interesting style to add to my collection so that it doesn’t look like I’m wearing the same thing every day. The low rise fit and toggle hems are superb and definitely feel like something new. Shall be a summer staple for sure!
Vincent Boulevard £250
With summer around the corner we’re all looking to improve our sunglasses game, look no further than Vincent Boulevard. The Camille is my personal favorite, I’m a sucker for an oversized frame and love a dark lens. The Avalon is black and green are also a really great option if you prefer a metal frame.
Brianna Moreno POA
Bri is a London based, Canadian artist making the sweetest hand beaded bags. With designs ranging from tea cups to teddy bears she’s making the accessories that hug your inner child. I recommend checking out her instagram to see all the designs she’s been making. Particularly obsessed with the fringe bags and of course this perfect dog design!
Valesque £268
My friends and I are all loving these bags, made of a satin nylon with a leather strap, they’re super practical while also being just very cute. Very into this big bucket size as a work bag, I’m always lugging around my laptop and a million other things and this feels like it could handle my baggage. Don’t sleep on the smaller purses either, the Corset and Thea are the perfect small bags as they’re again just practical, still fitting your phone and the essentials while not being bulky. They sell out quick so recommend getting them while you can!
