In 2025, everyone wants to be a popstar, but few have the sheer self-belief to actually pull it off. Honduran-born, Montreal-based Isabella Lovestory, however, was born to do it. With a daring approach to fashion, and a fearless take on musical style, melding whatever genres she feels like, she’s a true original who is exactly where she’s meant to be – and nothing she’s done in her career so far proves this more than her brand new second album Vanity.

A full level-up into glitter-edged pop, the record is an explosion of ideas and influences, from reggaeton to visual kei, all brought together by Lovestory’s magnetic persona. And as she flourishes in her pop princess era, here, she gives you her tips on how to do it in 2025 – whether you’re on stage in front of thousands, creating a fan community online, or making bangers in your bedroom, it’s all about state of mind.

Don’t give yourself creative boundaries

“I think I went fully in on this project, it’s more vulnerable in a lot of ways. I love experimenting with genres, sounds and themes I never did before. The album is about the dark side of beauty and how you can get lost in a house of mirrors, but also how fun it can be. I wanted it to feel like a complete journey. I never wanna be categorised or put in a box in any art form, so I had no limits when making this album.”

Have something real to say

Being a Honduran immigrant has shown me to be myself fearlessly in a strange country. I’ve always felt like an outsider and I want to represent freedom and courage to be who you are without giving a fuck about what’s supposed to be right.

Take inspiration from absolutely everywhere

I was really influenced by visual kei, specifically Malice Mizer – mostly in their world building and vampiric and baroque sounds. I was listening to a mix of 80s new wave, old school reggaeton and J-pop. Then, for my live shows, I’m inspired by the energy of punk shows with a touch of K-pop perfection. I treat it like a ritual where I let out everything. Kinda like a really fun exorcism.

Signature style is important, but “swag comes from the inside”

I’d describe my style as like… electric romantic baroque hoe. I guess people always say popstars need a signature look but I always dressed the way I do – and I don’t think anybody should listen to anything anyone says ever. Being naked is the best look I’ve ever worn. Swag comes from the inside. Someone stole my two suitcases full of custom looks I had designed myself right before my first tour, and it showed me how to turn on my  badass swaggy princess in a moment where I had nothing. But – I do love shoes, the more ancient and ready to disintegrate the better.

Embrace the Era

Having different eras is fun – life should be all about playing around and trying new things. My current era is Vampire Baroque Princess on shrooms time travelling to the year 5000.  Evil Cinderella. I love the Gwen Stefani LAMB era – the outfits, the fantasy, how she referenced fashion in her lyrics, the Harajuku style (I know it’s problematic, don’t come for me Twitter), it was everything. I also loved Mylene Farmer in the 2000s, Belanova in 2005… Katie Got Bandz in 2012.

Find your people!

I love my fans, I think we share an absurd humour. And if they’re not funny at least they think I’m pretty, I love it when people think I’m the best. I guess I’m vain.

And most importantly, when it comes to writing bangers, follow three simple steps…

1. Kiss urself in the mirror.
2. Break the mirror.
3. Laugh maniacally like a villain.
