Towa Bird on Widow’s Bay, Jimi Hendrix and Her New Favourite Band
Make it stand out
For our latest Non Threatening Boys* cover, there was really nobody more appropriate to spotlight than Towa Bird, the guitar-wielding heartthrob who just released her second album, Gentleman. In our interview with Towa, we chatted about the record, her upcoming live shows, and the way that she expresses her own masculinity - check that out here - but especially for Polyester Dollhouse members, we also caught up with her on the set of her cover shoot in LA to get the scoop on her current faves. Enjoy! xo

What album changed your life?
Are You Experienced by the Jimi Hendrix experience, because I just wanted to be him. I just wanted to be this man. What do I need to do to be that good of a guitar player and look that hot? I just need to do that, so that made me become a musician.
Who was the last new artist you listened to and what did you think of them?
This band from the UK called Mary in the Junkyard. And I just thought their guitarist was so cool, and her voice was so interesting, and the writing is sick. I just really loved their new album.
What are you listening to right now?
A lot of bands that brought me comfort when I was a kid. I’m revisiting old Arctic Monkeys records, and honestly I love them so bad. I’d die for those boys.
What is your current internet rabbit hole?
The girlfriends losing their minds over GTA 6, and being like, “If my boyfriend plays GTA 6, then that is cheating.” That is so interesting to me. We need to do a psychological study. I’m just watching all of the videos because I’m fascinated.
What are you currently binge watching?
I just binge watched Widow’s Bay! And that was really really good. And I also had nightmares. And I thought that every time I went to pee in the middle of the night that there was like, a creature in the corner of my bathroom. So don’t binge watch it! But watch it slowly. And take care of yourselves.
Who is in your musical Mount Rushmore?
I don’t know who’s on the real one, but mine would be Jimi Hendrix, Prince, Aretha Franklin, and Tina Turner. I feel pretty proud of that to be honest.
