Make it stand out
Jinkx Monsoon had a chosen family before it became a RuPaul’s Drag Race catchphrase and a buzzword for Pride month advertising. As a 16 year old in Portland, her friends were - as they often are for people that age - everything to her. Twenty two years later, when she isn’t based in London or New York for her renowned theatre stints, Monsoon lives with the same pals in the very same Portland, in a house that has been aptly dubbed ‘Monsoon Manor’.
“When I was a young person in Portland, I found my queer family and it was always this dream that we live in one big house together,” Monsoon reminisces now. “It was easy to lose sight of that dream when you go to college, get a job and the real world sets in, but when I got to the point where I started having the ability to be able to live outside of the normal constructs of society…”
